Zeno M. Schmitz, February 21, 1934-March 31, 2017
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 6th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo.
Zeno passed away suddenly on Friday at his home at the age of 83.
Zeno was born in St. Martin to Annie (Stang) and Anton Schmitz.
He was united in marriage to Joan C. Leopold on July 25, 1964 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in St. Paul.
Zeno worked as a barber and then moved to Buffalo in 1972. He had a real estate license and worked for R.J. Steinchen & Co. He decided to open a barber shop in his home. Zeno worked for the Buffalo Hospital in maintenance for thirty three years. He drove school bus for twenty years and also delivered The Star Tribune.
Zeno loved to garden, share the fruits of his labor generously with others.
He was devoted to his family and faith, especially to the Blessed Virgin Mary & St. Joseph. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and he was a charter member of The Knights of Columbus and an appointed member of St. Francis Xavier School Board.
He also coached Little League. If he heard someone was sick or for any other reason that they couldn’t come to him, he would go to them if they needed a barber.
When working at the hospital, he would donate his PTO hours to those that needed them.
He liked going to auctions, playing cards (500), square dancing and old time dancing. He volunteered to sell Christmas trees, worked with Bingo and sold tootsie rolls with The Knights of Columbus. He also worked every year at the Parish Festival. He loved making rhubarb, apple sauce and crisp.
Survived by his loving wife: Joan; children: Mary Schmitz (Daryl Jenkins) of St. Cloud, John (Kathy) Schmitz of Elk River, Ann (Rick) Bandemer of Sartell and Jenny Schmitz of Foley; four grandchildren: Alexander, Robert, Elizabeth and Cassandera; sisters: Melania Braegelmann of Richmond, Sylvia Schmitz of St. Anthony and by a brother: Linus (Margie) Schmitz of St. Louis Park; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Hedwig and Teckla and by brothers Clement, Isidore, Cyril and Norbert.
