January 25, 1935 – December 21, 2022

Willis Delmer Cardinal, age 87, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at The Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN.

He was born on January 25,1935 to Willmar and Muriel (Jewett) Cardinal at home in Waverly, MN.

Willis attended one room country school thru 8th grade and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1954.

He honorably served his Country in the United States Army from 1955-1957.

Willis worked for Washington Scientific Industries, E.R. Squibb & Sons Pharmaceutical Company for many years and then he worked for The Edina Schools for 30 years and retired from there in 1998.

He enjoyed dancing, especially the Hop Polka, a cold beer, Cribbage, gardening and John Deere tractors.

He is survived by a daughter: Lesa Driscoll; sons: Les Cardinal and Dan Cardinal; ex-spouse & friend: Darleen Cardinal; siblings: Mylen & Margie Cardinal, Marlette & Bill Babatz, Arlynn Cardinal (Mary Lou), Gerlene & Tony Klingelhoets, Orlan Cardinal and Dorlyn “Dewey” & Peggy Cardinal; sisters-in-law: Harriet Splettstoeszer and Donna Bergquist; brother-in-law: Duane Lyrek; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, a sister Verla Lyrek, brothers Garryl Cardinal and Delwin Cardinal, sisters-in-law Jane Cardinal, Diane Cardinal, Marlene Cardinal and Betty Lou Bergquist, brothers-in-law Norman Splettstoeszer, Bennie Bergquist and Jim Bergquist, a nephew Dennis Babatz and a great nephew Austin Cardinal.

Funeral Services for Willis Cardinal will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montrose.  Pastor James Grabitske will officiate.   Interment with military rites will follow at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Cemetery.   Lunch and fellowship will follow in the church basement.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7th AT THE CHURCH from 12 Noon until time of services at 2:00 P.M.

Casket Bearers will be Willis’s nephews: Benny Dale Bergquist, Daryl Cardinal, David Cardinal, Justin Cardinal, Gary Klingelhoets and Terry Splettstoeszer.

We want to thank our wonderful neighbors Lynn and Wanda, for all their help and kindness throughout the years and especially now.
