WILLIAM MICHAEL DOHERTY, 68

William Michael “Billy” Doherty, 68 of Waverly, MN, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 after a 2 1/2 year courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer.

William M. Doherty was born July 16, 1947 to Francis “Babe” Doherty and Elnor Vivian Eggergluss in Buffalo, MN.

William “Billy” Doherty grew up and lived in Buffalo, MN most of his life. Bill graduated from Buffalo High School in 1965. He then served in the U.S. Army Air 19th Aviation BTN from 1965 – 1969.
In 1969, Bill began his career in Concrete Construction with Minnesota State Curb and Gutter for 25 years and then for the last 20 years before retiring he worked for North Country Concrete Inc.
On April 10, 1996 Bill married his high school sweetheart, Karen Nelson.

Bill’s spare time was spent with summers at Mille Lac’s Lake where he owned a lake area place with his wife, Karen. Bill’s brother-in-law and sister, Tom and Cathy Jorgenson, were also at Mille Lac’s and they did lots of fishing together and traveling. Bill, with his wife, loved to travel which entailed cruises, flying, but mostly driving to see the country and stop at garage sales. Bill loved the outdoors and truly enjoyed woodworking. Bill was a member of the American Legion.

Bill had three grandchildren Jessica, Emily and Ava which he loved so much. He always had time to play, go tubing, fish, take in parades, and have a listening ear if they needed it.

Bill is survived by his wife, Karen Doherty; father, Francis “Babe” Doherty; sister, Cathy (Tom) Jorgenson; sister, Judy (Jeff) Schwietering; stepson, Jesse (Melynda) Watson; grandchildren, Jessica, Emily and Ava; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elnor Doherty.

The Doherty Family – I had many great childhood memories growing up with Bill between playing “work-up” in the street and fishing the local lakes. He caught fish when they weren’t biting for anyone else! May he rest in peace.

    Dear Cathy and Judy:

I recently saw Bill’s obituary. I realize it is now long passed but I want you to accept my love and good wishes. Thank you again for joining me to mark Eloise’s death.
Bill was thoughtful, caring and a wonderful part of our neighborhood and growing up. I was delighted to see that he enjoyed so many years with Karen.
You are often in my thoughts.
