Wayne D. Hillstrom, age 81, of Buffalo passed away on September 26, 2022 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Minneapolis, MN on December 4, 1940 the son of Glenn and Elsie (Peikert) Hillstrom.

Wayne graduated from Orono HS in 1958.  He honorably served our country in the MN National Guard for six years.  Wayne was joined in holy marriage to Mary C. Dixon on October 17, 1964 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church – Pelican Lake.  God blessed their marriage with three children.

Wayne retired from MN DOT as a project supervisor after nearly 40 years. He also worked the hobby farm on the family homestead in Independence, MN. He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano and was a past congregational treasurer and usher. In his spare time, he enjoyed ice fishing, deer hunting, and coffee with friends.

Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary C. Hillstrom; children Heidi (Steve) Oscarson of Delano, Michael (Cindee) Hillstrom of Scottsdale, AZ, and Heather Hillstrom of Plymouth, MN; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Wendy (David) Fransen of Milaca, MN; further survived by many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers James Peikert and Gary Hillstrom.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano, MN.  Interment Lewis Cemetery in Maple Plain.  Pastor Paul Marggraf will officiate.

Visitation AT THE CHURCH on Saturday, October 1 from 9 AM until time of service.

Casket Bearers will be Mark Laven, Justin Laven, Mark Fransen, Donny Peschel, Michael Miller and Mike Hillstrom.

Memorials are preferred to Mt. Olive Building Fund.

The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo MN assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

    So many wonderful memories of childhood on the Hillstrom Farm, riding on the hay wagon while the guys bailed hay, catching baby rabbits with Wendy, sitting around the table in the kitchen while Elsie bustled around to feed the boys. Thinking of you and your family. Andrea (Blagrove)Benjamin
