Wayne “Butch” Marquette (1948–2023)

Wayne “Butch” Marquette, 75, of St. Michael, MN sadly left us on December 19. He was born in St. Michael, MN on October 2, 1948 to Norman and Eleanor Marquette.

It is with heavy hearts, but memories full of crappie limits and fish fries, that we announce the passing of Wayne, a man who lived life with a fishing rod in one hand and a love for family in the other, while making many laugh along the way.

Born and raised in St. Michael, Wayne answered the call of the open seas upon graduation, joining the U.S. Navy and forging a path of service and adventure. Returning home, he traded in his uniform for a career as an ironworker, building not just structures, but a future for his beloved wife and sons.

Even with the demands of work and family, Wayne’s heart craved the quiet of the still, open lake. His twenty-year retirement was spent fishing with his best friends and family, providing cherished memories that will live on forever.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Eleanor Marquette, parents-in-law Lowell and Ladonna Zachman, nephew Troy Marquette, sister-in-law Joanne Marquette, and sister-in-law Connie Marquette.

Wayne is survived by his wife Kathy Marquette, sons Myles (Jen) Marquette and Grant Marquette, grandchildren Aspen (Nick) Akkerman and Griffen Marquette, siblings Robert Marquette, Ronald Marquette, James (Mary) Marquette, Kate (Richard) Bistodeau, Mary (Kevin) Weinand, Tom (Debbie) Marquette, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael-Albertville (300 Main Street North) at 6:00 PM with visitation beginning at 3:00 PM.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville. Online condolences for the family may be directed to
