Wayne Allen Loeffler, age 70 of Greenfield, passed away peacefully in the presence of family at the Minneapolis VA on the evening of Friday, August 26, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. Preceded in death by parents Delbert and Edna (Vergin), brothers Myron and James, sister Joann Hoppe, and step-son Daniel Dobson. Wayne was the youngest member of the Loeffler family, born in Minneapolis, MN on March 21, 1946.
Wayne is survived by wife of 23 years Gail; children Amanda (Mike) Ormsbee, Cassandra (Ciaran) Loeffler-Hahessy, and Kyle Dobson; grandchildren Rachel (16), Allen (10), Jayden (9), Jacob (8), Evan (4) and William (2); and sister Dianna (Butch) Meyer; mother of his daughters Linda (Mike) Poisson and also many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Wayne grew up on the family farm with his two brothers and sisters. After graduating Rockford High School in 1965, Wayne took some engineering courses at the University of MN, and then enlisted in the Army. Wayne served two years, one year in Vietnam. His last duty assignment was as Sergeant with Company B, 9th Signal Corps Battalion, 9th Infantry Division, US Army.
Following active duty, Wayne worked for a few years at Control Data, during which period his daughters were born. Wayne then worked at Contrex Fenner as manufacturing manager for over 25 years. In 1993, Wayne married Gail (Moran) Dobson, and together they happily raised Gail’s sons Kyle and Dan. Wayne semi-retired over 10 years ago, and worked part-time with his nephew making baseball mounds.
Wayne was a talented athlete and participated in bowling, baseball, softball and golf. He was a patient and effective teacher, coaching his daughters’ fast-pitch softball teams. Wayne especially loved the Minnesota Twins and continued to enjoy catching a televised game right up until his passing.
In his leisure time, Wayne travelled with Gail to Cancun, Hawaii and trips to Montana and Arizona to visit family and friends. Together they enjoyed golfing, fishing, snowmobiling; and also quieter times playing cards or working on a puzzle.
Wayne was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother and friend. He took great pleasure in his grandchildren. There are many fond memories – he will be deeply missed.
Memorial services for Wayne will be held Thursday, September 8th at 7pm at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael, MN, with the visitation prior from 4:00 – 7:00pm. Officiating will be Pastor Paul Schuler from Salem Lutheran Church in Greenfield, MN.
