Virginia Young, 98, of Minneapolis, passed away on August 5, 2023. Preceded in death by parents, Charles and Mary; husband Robert Malcolm Rodby of 23 years, husband Charles Nicholas Young of 38 years, sisters Charlotte, Kathleen, Joyce and Margaret, brothers James and Joseph. Survived by children Craig, Kris, Scott, Leslie, Lisa, Kent, Joey and Amy; and 18 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Minnesota, Virginia worked as a nurse in Virginia Minnesota, where she met and later married Robert Rodby. They moved to Minneapolis where Robert attended the University and mom worked for Mount Sinai for many years. Together they had 8 children, and Robert later died at the age of 47 years.

She luckily met another man 7 years later whom she married in 1979, Charles Young, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 93 years.  When Virginia met Charlie, she was quick to let him know she had eight kids, to which Charlie replied, “I love big families.”  He was a gift to the Rodby family.

Virginia was game for any social activity. She traveled everywhere with her kids throughout her life. She loved playing cards games, especially “500” where she’s known to give her partner a few clues. She would dance to any tune, and laugh at every joke. She was quick witted and often went toe-to-toe with anyone who would challenge her. At her death bed she joked often and teared up from the stories we shared with her. She will be missed dearly.

I was glad I got to know Virginia at Engel Haus when we had
Catholic services there. She was such a sweet lady and had a great faith. May she rest in God’s loving arms in his Eternal Kingdom!
