Virgil A. Wagner, 74, of Rockford passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 at his farm near Rockford.
Virgil was born on March 7, 1939 in Rockford on the family farm the son of Martin & Evelyn Wagner.
He was baptized on April 2, 1939 and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover on May 24, 1953.
Virgil was married to Edith Giese on September 24, 1960 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Following their marriage, Virgil engaged in farming on the family farm until he retired the summer of 2002.
Virgil loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren with all his heart. His love for hunting, fishing, and helping his son Brian farm filled his retirement years with endless joy.
He was a faithful member of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.
Survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years: Edith Wagner; children: Lori & Dennis Peterson of Rockford, Val & Ed Sjolin of Hanover, Brian Wagner & Tena Martin of Howard Lake; grandchildren: Nathan Sjolin, Nicholas Sjolin, Mitchell Peterson, Carrie (Peterson) & Andy Beyer, Stephanie (Wagner) & Kyle Lindsley, Andrew Wagner and Angela (Wagner) & Anthony Richter; great grandchildren: McKenna & Brody Lindsley and Aubree Beyer; a brother: Lyle & Linda Wagner; mother-in-law: Caroline Giese; brother-in-law & sister-in-law: Arlyn & Kathy Koecher, Fern Boyer, Leah Wandersee; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents: Martin & Evelyn Wagner and by his father-in-law: Waldemar Giese.
Funeral services for Virgil Wagner was held on Friday, November 8th, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford. Pastor Michael Barlow officiated.
Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.
A visitation was held on Thursday, November 7th from 4-8 P.M. at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford. A Prayer service was held at 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening.
Further visitation was held at the Church on Friday morning, November 8th one hour prior to services.
Casket Bearers were Nathan Sjolin, Mitchell Peterson, Nicholas Sjolin, Andrew Wagner, Andy Beyer, Kyle Lindsley, Anthony Richter, Neal “Pete” Roth and Jim Dixon.

So very sorry to hear about the sudden loss of Virgil. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
Words cannot convey how sorry I am to hear of Virgil’s passing. May the love of Jesus wrap around your family now and in the days ahead. No other man has ever loved his wife, children, and grandchildren more than he has.
