Visitation Information

McKinstry, Verona (Carlson)

Verona McKinstry, 78, of Buffalo, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 22, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Buffalo.
Verona was born December 25, 1929 in East Grand Forks, MN to Harvey and Loretta Helle. She married Dr. Vernon Carlson in 1948 and together they began raising a family in Thief River Falls, MN. They moved to Buffalo in 1962 where she continued to be an active resident and church member until her death. Shortly after Vernon passed away, she met Jay McKinstry while on a bus tour to Winnipeg, and they were married on December 1, 1990. Together they spent summers in Buffalo and winters in Mesa, AZ where she enjoyed sunning by the pool and potlucks for holidays and get-togethers with the Minnesotans. They also found time to travel. Her highlights included a cruise tour in Alaska, Oslo Norway, Hawaii, Ireland, and Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Ogden and Earl Helle; first husband, Vernon; and stepson, Michael McKinstry. She is survived by her husband, Jay McKinstry; son, Richard (Sue) Carlson of Otsego; daughters: Joyce (Henry) Berg of Buffalo, Jan (Kevin) Lincicum of Buffalo; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; stepson, Kevin (Linda) McKinstry of Buffalo; and their children and grandchildren.

A memorial service is taking place Saturday, April 19, 11 a.m., at Buffalo Covenant Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Verona requested memorials for children to go to Bible camp.

I’m sure your Mom was happy to have such great nursing care and TLC her last days with you. It was nice you brought her home. She had a great smile, and such a caring, thoughtful lady, just like her daughters! You have our sympathy. Take care.

We would like to express our condolences in the loss of your beautiful wife and mother. Our parents used to have so much fun with you all. She is now partying again with mom and dad.
