Vernon R. Petersen age 89 of Crystal, MN passed away on June 17, 2016 at The Legacy of St. Michael. Funeral service on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 11 AM at The Peterson Chapel, St. Michael, MN. Visitation on Monday, June 20 from 5-7 PM and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Interment South Maple Ridge Cemetery, Cambridge, MN.
Vernon was born on August 19, 1926 to Leonard and Virginia (Kirby) Petersen in Minneapolis, MN. Vernon served his country during WWII in the US Navy. He married Marjorie Hall in August of 1945. They lived in Crystal, MN for many years. He worked for the University of Minnesota as the Laboratory Services Coordinator from 1967, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed writing both fiction and essays and served as the President of the north Minneapolis chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America for which he wrote and edited the monthly newsletter.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie (Hall) Petersen, granddaughter, Christine, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Survived by his children, Susan (Robert) Hackler, Robert (Carry) Petersen, Connie (Todd) Loew, Bradley (Karen) Petersen, Nancy Kurpierz, Julie (Jim) Christensen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Rockstad and Sally Petersen.
