Thomas Raymond Pfleghaar passed away peacefully into his Heavenly Father’s hands at home in Buffalo, MN at 1:00 PM on December 22, 2013. He was surrounded and lovingly held by his dear family.

Tom was born the youngest of six children in Cologne, MN, on May 6 th , 1938 to Raymond Conrad Pfleghaar and Adelaide Elizabeth Haasken Pfleghaar. He graduated from West High School in Minneapolis in 1956. He honorably served his country in the United States Army in Turkey and Germany until 1961
He married the love of his life, Joan Marie Irmiter on November 10 th, 1962. They raised three children, making Buffalo, MN their home in 1978.
Tom spent the greater part of his career working for the public school system, the majority in Buffalo, MN where he retired in 1997 as the Director of Building and Grounds for ISD #877. During his retirement, he worked as a consultant for Inspec, Inc. while traveling the country with Joan, and volunteering at the Buffalo Food Shelf.
Tom loved his family more than anything, and enjoyed watching sports, fishing, and hunting with his son, Steve, and grandsons, spending time with his daughter, Carol, as well as attending concerts, sports, and school events with all of his grandchildren. He shared a special bond with Chris, Anna, Scot, and Morgan, making each feel like his favorite. He was very proud of us, and was always ready with a listening ear, good advice, and a joke or two.
Tom enjoyed his many friends, and will always be remembered for his quick wit and warm, engaging humor. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic parish and in his last years he developed a deeper walk with Christ, accepting His free gift of salvation.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son, Naval Petty Officer Third Class Joseph Scott Pfleghaar, AWS who died in a tragic helicopter accident in 1987 while serving his country on the USS Midway.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan, son Steve (Terry) Pfleghaar of Elk River, MN, daughter Carol (Noodle) Pfleghaar of Buffalo, MN, grandchildren, Chris, Anna, Scot, and Morgan Pfleghaar, nieces, nephews, favorite dog Nipper, and many good friends

Joan, Carol, Steve; We are so sorry for your loss! Words cannot express the sadness in our hearts at hearing of Tom’s passing. As a co-worker, he was one of the finest Sandy ever knew. As a friend, Randy enjoyed his company. Tom fought his cancer with dignity, grace and humor. May God and His Angels welcome Tom into the arms of our loving savior, Jesus Christ. Here’s to you, Tom — Happy Landings!
