Thomas met his wife, Josephine, in “the basement of ye-old Penney’s store” in January of 1949. They were married on May 25, 1957. They moved to Denver, CO and lived there until 1962 when they moved back to New Hope, MN. There, they raised their three children: Dan, Sue and Greg. They moved to St. Michael in June 2002, where he lived until his death.

Your entire family are in my thoughts. I know how you feel losing your last parent. You now join the rest of us who are orphans. Your dad use to send me sweet corn in the mail when it came in up there. I really liked your parents. Whether here on earth or at places we can only think of they were, are and always will be part of the Big Valley Family. And when ever I get really good sweet corn I always think of your dad. Close your eyes, picture your Dad, take a deep breath and let it out and say Good-bye. Remember he will always be watching.

I am so sorry that I had not heard of Tom’s passing. Tom and my mom, Betty Carl, played many, many games of Kings-in-the-corner. They loved to spend time together and talk about the “good old days.” I so wish I would have had a chance to see all of Tom’s pictures from Denmark and hear his stories. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
