Visitation Information

Thomas John Barthel, age 51, of Albertville passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009 at his residence.
He was born on June 9, 1957 in Zimmerman the son of Alroy & Betty Zimmerman Barthel.
Tom graduated from St. Michael-Albertville High School in 1975.
On December 5, 1981, Thomas J. Barthel & Jean M. Stoddard were joined in holy marriage at St. Albert’s Catholic Church in Albertville. God blessed their marriage with three children.
Tom was employed at Dahlheimer Distributing and later at Super Valu. He also was a longtime member of The Teamsters Union Local # 120.
He was a faithful and life long member of The Church of St. Albert in Albertville.
Tommy B loved the great outdoors, and share it with his son Andy, son-in-law Brett and many friends. Tom & Jean had a cabin in Cromwell, Minnesota that was their pride and joy. Next to their grandchildren of course. Tom shared the cabin with anyone and everyone who wanted to fish, hunt, play cards, or just share a beer.
He also loved to just drive. Tom and Jean spent many miles in the car whether it be a vacation or just a trip to the DQ.
Tom always had one eye on the road and one looking for a new place to hunt the proverbial big buck!
His love for fishing rubbed off on his daughter Janice and there was never a last word between Tom and daughter Laura, except “I love you.” That was one thing Tom instilled in his family “you never say good bye with out saying I love you, because you never know what the future holds.”
Tom was stricken with stage four Glioblastoma brain cancer on January 1, 2007 and fought hard for two years. Cancer not only took Tom’s life, but the possibility for him to help others. Tom wanted to be a donor, but because of the radiation and chemo he received, he could not donate. Please consider being a donor.
