Sylvia Rose Grittner, age 78, of St. Michael passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013 at her residence.

She was born in Morrison County, Minnesota on December 31, 1934 the daughter of Jack and Emma (Hoheisel) Grell.

Sylvia Grell was joined in holy marriage to Anthony Copa on May 29, 1954. God blessed their marriage with a son Anthony. Mr. Copa preceded her in death on March 24, 1959

On October 18, 1967 Sylvia Copa and Severyn Grittner were joined in holy marriage. Mr. Grittner preceded her in death on April 6, 1987.

Sylvia was formerly employed for twenty seven years at The Sartell School District as a secretary.

Sylvia knitted and crocheted thousands of afghans, blankets, tablecloths, hats, mittens and scarves. She donated the items to the poor, cancer sufferers, solders in Iraq, and many local charities, friends and relatives.

She was a faithful member of The Church of St. Albert in Albertville.

Survived by a son: Anthony (Sandra) Copa; granddaughter: Kathleen (Paul) Hawley; a grandson: Ryan Copa; Severyn Grittner’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister: Hilarion Nelson; brothers: John Grell and Gene Grell; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husbands, Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents: Jack & Emma Grell and by a brother: Roderick Grell.

A Memorial Mass for Sylvia Rose Grittner will be held on Friday, April 19th at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of St. Albert, 11400 57th Street N.E. in Albertville.

Interment will follow at St. Albert’s Cemetery in Albertville.

A time of gathering will be held on Friday, April 19th one hour prior to services.

Honorary Urn Bearers will be Michael Grell, David Grell, Robert DeWaard, Bruce Gateley, Robert Nelson and Paul Hawley.

Gift Bearers will be Sandra Copa and Anthony Copa. Readers for the Mass will be Katie Hawley and Ryan Copa.

Memorials may be made to Abiding Love Campaign.

    Sylvia was a special lady with a big heart. She was always willing to help when needed and with a big smile. She will be remembered for her talent for knitting prayer blankets and sharing them with people in need. She will be greatly missed and loved.
