Steven Joseph “Joe”. Buschel, age 60, of Buffalo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on Saturday, January 5th, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 24, 1952 in Buffalo the son of Herman & Margaret Serie Buschel.
Steven served briefly in The United States Marine Corp.
On November 17, 1973, Steven J. Buschel and Mary C. Holthaus were joined in holy marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage with five children.
He was formerly employed as a meat cutter and currently at Klatt True Value in Buffalo.
Steven enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren, woodworking, attending auctions, flea markets and antiquing. He was a very personable and socialable man with a great sense of humor, a dreamer. He was a handyman, repaired screens. He loved country western music and movies especially John Wayne. He also enjoyed playing cards with family. He was a volunteer at Catholic Charities and Love Inc. and enjoyed serving others. He was a man of honesty & humility who loved God.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo and a member of The Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree).
He will be greatly missed by many!
Survived by his wife of thirty nine years: Mary C. Buschel; children: Rose Buschel, Tonya (Ramon) Vega, Joseph (Christine) Buschel, Charles (Chantell Lee) Buschel and Daniel Buschel; nine grandchildren: Dannaliz , Jonathan , Ramon Jr. and Isabella Vega; Skylee, Braydon Alannah Buschel, Brandon Buschel and Angelina Buschel; brothers and a sister: Robert (Joan) Buschel, Donna (Willard) Swanson, Bill (Linda) Buschel and James (Noreen) Buschel; mother-in-law: Irmina Holthaus; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents: Herman & Margaret Buschel, a brother: Richard Buschel, sisters-in-law: Corrine Buschel and Kay Buschel, brother-in-law: Stephen Foster and by his father-in-law: Fred Holthaus.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Steven Buschel will be held on Thursday, January 10th at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of St. Francis in Buffalo. Father David Hennen will be the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9th AT THE CHURCH from 4-8 P.M. Further visitation at the Church on Thursday morning one hour prior to Mass.
Casket Bearers will be Joseph Buschel, Charles Buschel, Daniel Buschel, Ramon Vega, Jonathan Vega, Ramon Vega Jr., Greg Donovan, Jerry Utecht, Keith Swanson and Josh Buschel.

You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sorry I will not be able to stop by, because I leave for California on Tuesday. I hope you feel some comfort knowing he is now in the Lord’s hands.

Farewell to a “wonderful & caring long time family friend”. We miss you already. Joe had many childhood stories to tell & Greg was usually involved in every story (along with other neighborhood boys!) Joe touched the lives of so many people thru the years. What a great sense of humor he had. Our thoughts & prayers are with the Buschel family. THANKS…for the memories “Stephen Joseph Buschel” (as Greg would say!)

Joey, my friend. The laughs and freedom we lived. Until we meet again for beer and cake for breakfast.
Steve will always be my American father and will always occupy a very important place in my heart. I wish I was able to be with my American family these hard days, but the distance makes it impossible. The Buschel family is always in my thoughts.
