Stephen Joseph “Steve” Kocak
Age 72 of Buffalo, died Tuesday December 9, 2008. He was born in Minneota Township, Jackson County on August 19, 1936 to Andrew John Kocak Sr., and Mary Adeline (nee Pavelko). Steve was a class of 1954 graduate of Lakefield High School. He attended Worthington Junior College and Mankato State College for two years. For six years, he worked for Lakefield Cooperative Feed Mill & Elevator as an assistant manager. Steve was united in marriage with Joann G. Johannsen on May 4th, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakefield, MN. God blessed their marriage with two daughters. He later worked as a licensed insurance agent for twenty-five years, first with Farm Bureau in Windom, beginning in 1969, and transferred to Willmar in 1973. Steve came to Buffalo in 1975 and joined the Farm Bureau office in downtown. Steve formerly belonged to the Jaycees in Windom. For fourty years, he was a Knights of Columbus member in Lakefield. He was a past Grand Knight and a charter member of the Lakefield K.C. Council. He was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and money counter. Steve enjoyed playing billiards, softball, and baseball. He had two tryouts with the Minnesota Twins, and one with the Chicago White Sox. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an active volunteer with the Children’s Miracle network. Steve is survived by his loving wife Joann Kocak; two daughters, Michelle (Mike) Kocak Jones, of Monticello and Julie (Greg) Mooney, of Maple Lake; twelve grandchildren; brother, Andrew (Jean) Kocak Jr., of Lakefield; sister, Elizabeth Lev, of Jackson, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a brother, John Kocak and by a sister, Evelyn Garms. A Mass of Christian Burial for Steve will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, in Buffalo, MN on Saturday December 13, 2008 at 11 AM. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Friday with a prayer, and time of remembrance, and rosary service at 7 PM. Additional visitation to be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Father David Hennen celebrant. Pallbearers are his grandchildren, Brittany (Steve) Orson, Leigha Mooney, Kaitlyn Mooney (Fiance Billy Helmbrecht), Brelynn Mooney, Michael Mooney, Joseph Mooney, Matthew Mooney, Luke Mooney, Trista Kleinsteuber, Victor Kleinsteuber IV, Kayla Kleinsteuber and Cassandra Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Dave & Mary Mueller, Dale & Darla Bode, Stan Bode, Dale Hugunin, Chuck Foreman, Murl Keller and “The Pool Sharks”. Interment at St. Francis cemetery.
