Shirley M. Zahler, age 78, of St. Michael passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Guardian Angels of Elk River.
She was born on December 17, 1934 in Veblen, South Dakota the daughter of Martin & Ruth Nelson Lien.

On November 22, 1951, Shirley M. Lien and Lloyd L. Zahler were joined in holy marriage at The Church of Corpus Christi in St. Paul. God blessed their marriage with eight children.

Shirley was a faithful member of The St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. She also belonged to its CCW and to The American Legion Auxiliary.

Survived by Children: Max (Linda) Zahler, Martin (Sandy) Zahler, James (Krista) Zahler, Michele (William) Olson, Joseph (Rhonda) Zahler, Julie (Keith) Franklin, Dana (Shelly) Zahler and Don Zahler; twenty-two grandchildren & seven great grandchildren; brothers: Vernon Lien and Noel Lien; sisters: Evelyn Tuenge and Gloria Van Auken; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by husband: Lloyd L. Zahler on February 1, 2010 and by her parents: Martin & Ruth Lien.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Zahler will be held on Thursday, September 5th at 11:00 A.M. at The St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. Father Peter Richards , Father Paul Zahler and Father Dennis Backer will be the Concelebrants.
Private family Interment St. Michael Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4th from 4-8 P.M. at The St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. Further visitation will be held on Thursday morning, September 5th one hour prior to Mass at the church.

Casket Bearers will be Tiffany Nelson, Andrew Zahler, Torrey Zahler, William Olson, Mercedes Zahler, Ashley Robeck, Tyler Zahler and Katelyn Zahler.

    Shirley was such a kind and generous person. Our family will always hold her and Lloyd near and dear to our hearts. I’m so happy that we were able to see her this past May. Our thoughts, prayers, and love are sent to the entire family.

    The passing of an era. Although my mother was Lloyd’s aunt, Lloyd and Shirley were some of my parents’ best friends. We usually stayed with Shirley and Lloyd when as kids we visited St. Michael.
