July 7, 1983 – May 20, 2023

Scott Alan Hasse, 39, Otsego, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 20, 2023 at his home.

Scott was born July 7, 1983 to Randy and Kathy (Portner) Hasse in Minneapolis. He was raised on the water, and loved all watersports. He also played hockey, broomball and enjoyed any and all sports. Later, he would find joy in watching his children, nephews, and nieces perform on the ice, on the field and in the gym.

He graduated from St. Michael-Albertville High School in 2002, and worked hard each day after cleaning the exterior of many buildings around the area, including US Bank Stadium. He married Kristyn Gmach on October 6, 2012 in Elk River. The two made their home in Monticello and then Otsego. He adored their three children: Olive, Stella and Lucas.

Scott was a friend to many, and a defender of that friendship. He was quick to lend a hand to family, friends and strangers when needed. He loved time at family cabins, around the table, and on the ice with his friends. But his true joy came from his “kids” – his nieces and nephews and, of course, his own.

Scott is survived by his wife, Kristyn; his children Olive, Stella and Lucas; parents Randy and Kathy; father-in-law Gene Gmach; sister Gina (Joel) Dehmer; sister-in-law Jennifer Schoemer; brother-in-law Matthew Gmach; nephews Kamden Schoemer, Quentin Gmach, Levi Gmach and Alexander Gmach; nieces Kaylee Dehmer, Briella Dehmer, Mattie Schoemer and Ellie Schoemer; and many family members and close friends he considered family.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Gilbert and Adeline Hasse; maternal grandparents Donald and Gladys Portner; and his mother-in-law, Marla Gmach.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Peterson Chapel in St. Michael, as well as one hour prior to the funeral. Burial service will be at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery following the Mass.

Casket bearers will be Matt Gmach, Quentin Gmach, Kamden Schoemer, Joel Dehmer, Jason Walker, Ben Dehmer, Nick Pouliot and Eric Ronsen.
