Ruth Arlene (Neske) Jans, age 86 of Buffalo, MN, passed away December 27, 2023. She was born on June 25, 1937 at her parent’s farm in Rockford Township, Wright County. She was the daughter of Bruno and Clara (Kubalsky) Neske.

Reverend Alvin Leersen baptized her at Trinity Lutheran Church, Crawford Lake on July 18, 1937. Reverend E.R. Berwald confirmed her on May 18, 1951, at her home in Marysville Township because she had the mumps on Confirmation Sunday.

After graduating from Buffalo High School in 1955, she worked at the Wright County ASC Office in Buffalo. On June 1, 1957 she was united in marriage to Gordon Herbert Jans at St. John’s Lutheran Church by Reverend E.R. Berwald. They were blessed with the birth of two daughters and one son.

In 1966, they moved to the farm near Lake Constance because it was a good place to raise a family. She was home for 17 ½ years while the children were growing up, and also taught vacation Bible school, Sunday school, and Catechism. Many years were spent as a Wright County Fair board member, was an active member of St. John’s LWML, 4-H Leader and helping the kids with their projects and records. She later worked at Centra Sota and the nuclear plant in Monticello for several contractors and was the Buffalo Township Club Treasurer. Since retiring, she enjoyed bowling, quilting, traveling, and spending time with family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; brothers, Earl Elletson and Walter Neske; and sister, Eva Ordorff.

Survived by her children, Barb (Mike) Greenhagen, Brian (Kim) Jans, and Diane (Jon) Gilmer; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Loredo and Herb (Doris) Neske; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo, MN (302 2nd St NE). Interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo.

    Barb,Brian and Diane,
We were so sorry to hear of Ruth’s death. She will be greatly missed. She and Gordy were wonderful neighbors. She was always so helpful with our garden and was so quick to answer my quilting questions. I would be working in my garden and see her pulling thistle and picking up sticks and we’d have a nice chat and catch up. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy at your great loss.
