Rose Marie Macalena, age 84 of Buffalo, MN passed away on Feb 12, 2016 at Lake Ridge Care Center, Buffalo. Funeral service on Monday, Feb 15, 2016 at 2 PM at The Friendship Center, Lake Ridge Care Center, Buffalo with visitation one hour prior to service at the care center. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Buffalo, MN.

Rose was born on February 20, 1931 in New York, NY to Joseph and Helen (Foley) McGonnell. She married Alex Macalena on September 29, 1951 in New York. Following Alex’s retirement, they moved to Buffalo, MN. Rose worked as a dietary aide at ParkView Care Center in Buffalo. Rose enjoyed bingo, reading, drinking tea and visiting with friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and making hats for babies. She truly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen, husband, Alex Sr., two sons, Steve in 1974 and Ed in 2012.

Survived by her children, Alex (Elaine) Macalena of Buffalo, MN, Marilou Montero of New York, NY; grandchildren, Jeff (Nicole) Macalena, Dave (Michelle) Macalena, Kate (Patrick Sullivan) Meehan, Matt Meehan, Adam Montero, Ashley (Tim) Murray and Nicholas Montero;six great-grandchildren, Olivia and Sophie Macalena and Madison Macalena, Colm & Cora Murray & Julia Sullivan; daughter-in-law Cathy Meehan of Ohio; sisters, Joan Bertrand of New York and Barbara “Penny” Schmidt of New Jersey.
