Ronald Lorenz Vollrath, age 75, of Delano, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 7, 2016. Ronald was born on February 15, 1940 in Corcoran Township, Minnesota, the son of Lorenz and Lorena (Strehler) Vollrath.
Ron was half owner and operator of LSV Metals Inc. and also a member of the Sheet Metal Worker’s LOCAL #10.
He served his country as a proud Army veteran serving 6 months active duty and 4 ½ years in the Reserves.
Ron had three main loves during his life and one of them was hunting and shooting. He had many hunting adventures with his cousin and hunting partner, Loren Kohnen, traveling the world 2 ½ times over and visiting 4 continents. The result of these trips included taking 4 sheep species on the North American continent which is called a North American Grand Slam, the taking of 12 species of goats from around the world which is called the Capra Slam and 12 species of sheep from around the world which is called the Ovis Slam. With the taking of these 28 sheep and goats Ron was awarded with the World Slam.
He was a Minnesota Firearms Safety Instructor from 1975 until 2015, director of the Midwest Wild Sheep Club, director of the Elk River Gun Club, and enjoyed shooting trap at multiple gun clubs.
One of Ron’s other passions was his family. He had a close relationship with his brothers. They would meet for supper weekly, continuing the family tradition their mother had started years ago. He loved being with extended family and never forgot a name or place.
He was a loving father to his children and grandchildren, showing them the meaning of being kind and generous to others. Even in his last days he was still teaching his children about life.
Ron greatest love was the love he had for his Lord. He was also a devout Christian and acted on his faith in many ways. He served his church by singing in the choir, being an usher, and also a trustee for his church.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Lorenz and Lorena; and step-father, Jerome Georges.
He is survived by his brothers, Jerald (Peggy) and Darven; children, Brent (Kristin), Barry and Bethany (Bradley) Marquardt; grandchildren, Reed, Grant and Elise Marquardt; significant other, Phyllis; cousin and hunting partner, Loren Kohnen; also many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to West Lutheran High School.
Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.
He will be missed.
My favorite memory of Ron was being in grade school at Salem and hearing his bass voice in choir. May our God give you comfort and confidence that he is with Him in heaven.
