Ronald J. Block, age 69, of Buffalo passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 at his residence.

He was born on December 31, 1943 in Buffalo the son of Arnold E. & Ethel M. Topel Block.

Ronald graduated from Rockford High School in 1961.

He honorably served his country in The United States Army.

On April 30, 1965, Ronald J. Block and Arlis C. Marschel were joined in holy marriage at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pelican Lake. God blessed their marriage with two children.

He was formerly employed as a machinist at B & D Machine. He was currently employed at Cenex. Through the years, Ron also worked at Wayne’s Hardware, Klatt True Value and Conoco/Tesoro. He was a past part-time Rockford Police Officer. He also volunteered with the Rockford Fire Department, Rockford Little League and Rockford Town Team Baseball.

Recently, Ron volunteered for “Let’s Go Fishing with Seniors” in Buffalo.

Ron was a lifetime member of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford, where he was active on the council, as an usher and in other ways.

He was a member of Rockford American Legion and later joined Buffalo American Legion Post #270.

Survived by his wife: Arlis Block of Buffalo; children: Wanda (Nick) Kath of Buffalo and Doug (Jodi Clifton-) Block of Montrose; six grandchildren: Ben, Jessica, Daniel, Vincent, Jack and Trevor; brothers: Wayne (Sandra) Block of Maple Lake and Michael Block of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Block and Carmen Schroeder; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents: Arnold & Ethel Block, a brother: David Block and by his father-in-law & mother-in-law: Ted & Maggie Marschel.

Funeral services for Ronald J. Block will be held on Saturday, January 12th, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford. Pastor Michael Barlow will officiate.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 11th from 3-8 P.M. at the church. A Prayer service will be held on Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Saturday morning, January 12th one hour prior at the church.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ron’s grandchildren.

Casket Bearers will be Randy Meyer, Mike Jeske, Mike Nix, Russ Point, Korey Klatt and Wayne Tokkesdal.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo is serving the family. Online condolences may be made to www.thepetersonchapel.com. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

    What a huge loss. I did LGFWS fishing trips with Ron and had a great time. He was a great Cpt., person and friend. My heartfelt condolences to the family and we will definately miss him on LGFWS.
