Robert Earl Walton, age 88, of Rockford, MN, passed away on Sunday May 30th, 2010, at the Sunrise Cottages in Buffalo, MN. Robert was born on May 22nd, 1922, the son of Clement and Clara (Walters) Walton in Lemmon, SD.
Robert was baptized on May 3rd, 1935, confirmed on May 5th, 1935, both in Ogilivie, MN, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was united in marriage to Wanda Copeland on July 30th, 1946; later in life he married Edna Giese.
Robert was a lifelong member of Cross Ev. Lutheran Church of Rockford, serving as Sunday school teacher and church elder. A WW11 veteran, Robert served honorably and bravely in the Merchant Marines. His great passion was for God, family and country. He also loved baseball and was an avid Twins fan. As a young man, he pitched for the Minneapolis Millers until his call to duty in the war. His occupations included a stone cutter at the Delano Granite Works, a farmer with farms in Maple Plain, MN and Cokato, MN. He also worked 20 years as a US Postal Service employee.
Robert is survived by his loving family: children, Linda (Mike)Poisson of Big Lake, MN, Lois (Dwayne) Kettenacker of Buffalo, Kevin (Lori) Walton of Buffalo; grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Ormsbee, Cassie (Ciaran) Hahessy, Katie (Brett) Rhodes, Jaime (Jeremiah) Gregory, Darcie Kettenacker, Ryan (Katie) Kettenacker, Brent Kettenacker and Seth Walton; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Allen,Jacob, Logan, Saul, Trinity, Selah, Judah, Cayden, DeMarcus, Dejah and Evan; and sister-in-law Pearl Walton.
Preceded in death by: spouses Wanda in 1994 and Edna in 1998, parents Clement and Clara, siblings, Ethel, Merlin, Walter, Lester, Mildred, Howard, great-grandson, Justice.
Casket Bearers are Seth Walton, Ryan Kettenacker, Brent Kettenacker, Mike Ormsbee, Brett Rhodes, Dr. James Walton, and honorary casket bearer Jerry Walton.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 4th, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.
Visitation held Thursday at the CHURCH from 4-8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7 P.M.
Interment is at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.
