Richard Leo Berning, age 79, of Monticello and formerly of St. Michael died Saturday, July 29th, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

He was born in St. Michael on March 28, 1938 the son of Victor & Clara (Goeb) Berning.

Richard was a gentle, quiet, kind soul who was always willing to help anyone with anything anytime that they asked. He loved his farm, tractors and his church. He also enjoyed woodworking, country music and auctions.

Survived by his sisters and a brother: Dorothy Berning of Rockford, Rosemary (Steve) Perry of Plymouth, Helen Berning Thramer of Belle Fourche, South Dakota and Gerald Berning of Monticello; 5 nieces and nephews, 4 great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a great nephew Robert Legatt.

Mass of Christian Burial Monday, August 7th, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at The St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael. Interment St. Michael Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 7th from 9:30 A.M. till time of Mass at the church.

Casket Bearers will be Aaron Thramer, Chad Perry, Matthew Perry, Melissa Legatt, Kathryn Utley and Sean Perry.
