Richard Harry Marketon was born on August 20, 1934 in Minneapolis to Frank and Victoria (nee Sabanish) Marketon. Richard was raised by various relatives due to Victoria’s death during his birth. As a youth, Richard worked as a farm hand and when he was 17 he moved to Minneapolis and began working as a cook at The Brothers Delicatessen. On June 20, 1953 Richard married Marlene Doetkott at the Catholic Church in Credit River. A hard worker, Richard stayed with The Brothers Deli for 31 years, during which time he was promoted to general manager. He then worked for 18 or more years as the manager of the Star Liquor store in New Hope. Richard continued to work in a less-than-full-time capacity until he was 71 years old. A jack-of-all-trades, Richard enjoyed gardening, cooking, going to the movies, traveling with his wife, fishing with his wife and grandchildren, and attending the grandchildren’s various sports and activities. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughters: Kathy Lieske-Peterson, Santa Monica, California, Sheri (Gary) Sammon, Laguna Niguel, CA, & Patti (Terry) Freeman, St. Michael; siblings: Raymond (Gerry) Marketon, Brooklyn Center & Marion (George) LaDauceur, St. Cloud; grandchildren: Jennifer Lieske, Corey & Catherine Sammon, Joe & Nick Arnold, Dallas & Chance Freeman; sisters-in-law: Eileen (Walter) Wilber, Arizona & Bonnie Seruer, New Market; brothers-in-law: Ronald (Eileen) Doetkott, St. Louis Park, Delbert (Betty) Doetkott, Lakeville, & Richard (Trish) Doetkott, Oak Grove; nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 24, 2008 at the St. Michael Catholic Church on Frankfort Parkway. Visitation is 4-8 on Thursday at the funeral home with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service. Interment will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

I am sorry that I found out to late to attend the services. I worked with Richard for many years at Star Liquors. He was one of the finest men that I have ever met. I am sure that your family will miss him. Best Regards.
