Richard “Dick” LeRoy Swanson, age 85 of Albertville, MN, passed away January 17, 2024.  He was born on November 10, 1938, in Minneapolis, MN to Charles “Chuck” and Margaret (Simon) Swanson.

Dick was a graduate of Columbia Heights High School, Class of 1956. Following his education, he enlisted in the Army, serving with honor before receiving his discharge.

His extroverted personality and social nature made him a beacon of friendship. He possessed the unique ability to strike up conversations effortlessly, connecting with both friends and strangers alike. His Thursday mornings were reserved for coffee gatherings with his close friends at the St. Michael McDonalds, a tradition they fondly referred to as “The Liars Club.”

Known for his great sense of humor and kind spirit, Dick was universally loved for being easy to get along with. His residence on BeeBe Lake allowed him to indulge in his passion for fishing, finding solace and joy out on the water. Dick was an active member of the lake association.

In addition to his love for the lake, Dick was a proud participant in various local groups and organizations, including the Historical Society and Lions Club. His commitment to community extended to his devout membership at St. Michael Catholic Church, where his faith and fellowship were unwavering.

Dick’s hobbies included collecting and working on classic cars, with a particular fondness for his 1939 Buick Roadmaster. He delighted in showcasing his prized possession at Back to the 50s events, sharing his passion with fellow enthusiasts.

Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine, and his parents, Chuck and Marge.

He is survived by his children, Chris (Shaun) Swanson and Tim (Darla) Swanson; grandchildren, Evan, Emmett, and Mateo; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM with visitation two hours prior (9 AM) at the St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, MN. Inurnment will follow at the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

    Dick was a good friend to us and everyone he was around. His positive outlook on life seemed to rub off on everyone he touched. We will remember his kind ways. His knock on our door, laughter and willingness to play life just right will be missed by us and everyone that knew him.

    Dick will be missed at the Crow River Senior Center by many since the beginning of our center in 2005. Many of us rode with him in his coveted Buick Roadmaster in the parade. R.I.P. Dick
