September 25, 1974 – January 19, 2024

Rebecca Diane (Leininger) Kress passed away on January 19, 2024 at home in Otsego, MN at the age of 49, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma.  She was surrounded by family.

Becca was born on September 25, 1974 in Panorama City, CA to Dennis and Carolyn Leininger.  Becca’s childhood homes included Minneapolis, MN, Moorhead, MN, Lewisville TX, and finishing her high school education in Coleraine, MN.  Becca’s college years were spent in Moorhead and Minneapolis, graduating from Augsburg College in Minneapolis with a degree in Sociology.  Becca had a special way of making lifelong friends in all of these places, and continued to do the same into her adulthood.

Becca was blessed with two beautiful children, Samantha and Madelyn from her marriage to Jason Walters in 1998, and was gifted with three wonderful step-children, Joey Jordan, and Zoey and Zane Kress from her marriage to Brent in 2009.

The loves of Becca’s life were her family and friends.  Everywhere she went she cultivated deep, meaningful, fun relationships, whether it was relaxing at the camper around a bonfire, at the local watering hole playing pull tabs, or texting with SKOL Fam on Sundays watching the Minnesota Vikings. Wherever she went,  Becca brought with her a one-of-a-kind, infectious laugh, and exuded joy to everyone she met.

In addition to her full-time work in city government, Becca’s entrepreneurial spirit came alive in her personal endeavors, including her photography business where she spent time capturing the joy and beauty of others during special times in their lives. Becca possessed an appreciation for the beauty of life, and was always striving to make sure others knew how much she loved them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Becca is survived by her loving husband Brent, her daughters Samantha (Jonathan Hickox-Young) Walters, Madelyn (Darien Smith) Walters, step-children Joey Jordan, Zane and Zoey Kress, mother Carolyn Leininger, sisters Alaena (Tony Colonna) Leininger, Tammy (Al) Huf, brother Craig (Lisa) Leininger, 15 nieces and nephews, one great-niece, and scores of cousins and friends.

Becca is preceded in death by her father, Dennis Leininger.

    Brent, Samantha and Maddie,
What a beautiful and happy mom and wife you had. She will be missed by many but that big smile will live in our minds forever. Becca was a brave fighter just like her dad. Just keep remembering her with that big smile on her face and how much she loved you. Sorry we can’t be there but hopefully we will see you in North Dakota.

I have great memories with Becca that I will forever cherish. Her laughter was infectious. She was so courageous, brave, and determined through this entire journey. I have enjoyed spending time with her towards the end and I know she knew it was me because of my Green Bay Packer attire that I would wear for her 🙂

Love and Hugs to you all as you find comfort and peace. Always celebrate her love through the many memories.
