Ray Charles Edgette, age 71 of St. Michael, passed away on April 23, 2018. He was born on July 9, 1946 in Topeka, Kansas to Ray and Ruth Edgette. Ray and his first wife, Robyn (McCann) had three children, Wendy, Heidi, and Mark.
Ray was a six year member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He had an illustrious career which began as an electrician with Benson Electric and Belknap Electric in his home town of Superior, WI. He excelled and worked his way up to an electrical superintendent with Bechtel Corporation. While with Bechtel, Ray’s career took him all over the United States with 28 stops over 30 years.
While never have been accused of being a Cheshire Cat, he had a sharp and sarcastic wit which he used to his utmost benefit. Ray was quick with a one-liner, and you knew he liked you if he gave you an affectionate nickname.
Ray had a love of family, merlot, fancy cars, golf, and the Green Bay Packers, not necessarily in that order. He adored sharing stories over a glass of wine and a great meal, especially Sammy’s Pizza.
He got more than he bargained for, when he met his companion of 30 years, Jackie Scherber, the oldest of 15 children, who was a tireless partner throughout. It was like ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ when Jackie summoned her family to gather for the final rosary. Ray was surrounded by loving family, including his sister Carol, who has been a dedicated advocate throughout his three and a half year battle with Mesothelioma. Jackie’s extended family definitely adopted Ray as part of their clan and surrounded him with their love.
He recently, finally, made the pilgrimage to Lambeau Field and the Packer Hall of Fame. He was accompanied by his miracle grandson, Matty, who he watched games with and who was his favorite partner in post-game critique. They both own too many green shirts.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Lyle and Ruth Edgette, and his first wife, Robyn (McCann) Kucera.
Ray is loved and will be terribly missed by his companion, Jacqueline Scherber; children, Wendy Edgette, Heidi Edgette-Downs (David), Mark Edgette (Abby Seachrist); siblings, Carol Hosfield (Bob), Gordy Edgette (Jill), Connie Edgette; grandchildren, Jamie, Matthew, Taylor Ray, Simon, Oliver, Oscar; great-grandchildren, Tristen, Jayde, Troy Ray, Bella, Raelynn, Jaece, Robyn; Jackie’s extremely large and loving family, especially Nash and Gabe; many beloved nieces and nephews, family and friends; and his very special confidant, Stripes (the dog).
A Memorial service will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 6:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 11300 Frankfort Pkwy NE, St. Michael MN. There will also be a celebration of life at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Nebagamon at a later date this summer with interment at the Lake Nebagamon Cemetery.
Serving the family is The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. 763-497-5362. www.thepetersonchapel.com.

Ray and I graduated from Superior Central High School together in 1964. We attended the 50th Central HS Reunion together in 2014. My deepest sympathies to his family.
Gone way too early. Lots of memories.
May you be at Peace now my beloved brother Ray. You fought this cancer for 3 1/2 years and contributed a lot to research. We will miss you until we meet again someday.
Love Carol
I have known Ray since we were young kids.
Hunted with Ray in the “Big Woods” behind Pattison School when we were young.
Fished in Canada with Ray also.
Many great memories !
I have one memory of Ray that I look at everyday.
My cap on my front tooth.
Ray high sticked me in the mouth playing back yard hockey 60 plus years back! We had many fun times together! He will be missed.
I worked with Ray on several Bechtel projects around the country and considered him a friend. He had a great sarcastic, witty sense of humor and we shared many laughs together. So sorry to hear of his passing…
