July 17, 1951-November 17, 2018

Randal “Randy” Des Marais, 67, of Buffalo passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born on July 17, 1951 in Monticello the son of Marah and Mabel Des Marais. He lived in Buffalo his whole life.

Randy had multiple accomplishments. He owned a hardware store with his brother Joe, where he met the love of his life and married her on November 22nd, 1980.  They spent almost thirty eight unforgettable years together, very rarely being apart.

He helped carry on the family auctioneering business encouraging his two sons to do so as well. Randy also worked in the assessing field for thirty three years as Wright County Assistant Assessor and as Marysville Township Assessor.

At home he enjoyed spending time with his family, singing with his grandchildren “You Are My Sunshine”, driving his team of horses and working on his hobby farm. He always said we had “A little bit of everything not much of anything”.

He taught his children the important things he valued, like never giving up on an animal until it was gone, and how important family is. Randy lived for his family!   He was very proud of his children and the people they have become.

Randy had a contagious laugh that would leave everyone with tears in their eyes and a smile that will never be forgotten!

Survived by his wife: Brenda; children: Jill (Ryan) Laudenbach, Bridget (Joe) Landowski, Matthew (Kassie) Des Marais and Michael Des Marais (Cheyenne Hickman); grandchildren: Lauren, Gretta and Emily Laudenbach, Kennedy and Charley Landowski, and Ella and Brody Des Marais; brothers: Joe (Jeanette) Des Marais and Curt (Carol) Des Marais; sisters: Constance Des Marais, Christine Hafften and Karen (Jake) Morvedt; sister in law: Janice Des Marais; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents Marah and Mabel Des Marais, his mother in law Beverly (Ordorff) Kowalke and by a brother Chester “Chet” Des Marais.

I am saddened to hear of Randy’s passing. I always enjoyed going to Assessor meetings and visiting with Randy. He cared about all of us, as assessors and as friends. I am happy that I had him as part of my life. He was a good man and will be missed.

Randy was a great friend and neighbor, always great to talk to at his office when I was commissioner. I do not think there was anything he wouldn’t do for anyone. To Randy’s family, what a great man you are giving to GOD, rest in peace Randy, you will be missed by many.
