Paul James Aulwes, age 87, of Montrose, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
He was born January 24, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Fredrick Henry and Cecilia Margaret (O’Neil) Aulwes, II. On January 7, 1950 Paul James Aulwes and Adeline Marie Miland were joined in holy marriage at Grand Meadow Catholic Church. God blessed their marriage with six children.
Paul was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly where he enjoyed volunteering as a cook for numerous church functions. He was a World War II veteran who served in the US Navy as a Ship’s Cook Third Class. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the Waverly Knights of Columbus. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and traveling with his son, Steve. He also enjoyed golfing and playing cards.
He is survived by his children: Paula Ann (Rod) Ruesch, Dennis James (Stacey) Aulwes, Cecilia Marie (Vern) Torgeson, Steven William Aulwes, Tim Paul (Debbie) Aulwes and Thomas Jay (Wanda) Aulwes; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Busse and Agnes Thomas; brothers: Phil Aulwes and John Aulwes; brother and sister-in-law: Dolly and Donna Miland; sister-in-laws: Dorothy Aulwes, Gwennie Hovden and Margaret Miland. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife: Adeline Marie (Miland) Aulwes on February 25, 2006; his parents: Fredrick Henry and Cecilia Margaret (O’Neil) Aulwes, II; mother and father-in-law: Marie and Gunvick Miland; brothers: Fredrick (Eunice) Aulwes III, and Herb Aulwes; sister: Betty (Ed) Radford; brothers-in-law: Lee Busse, Glen Thomas, Emmett Hovden, Bill Farnsworth and Larry Miland; sisters-in-law: Millie Aulwes and Vernese Farnsworth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am Thursday, December 22, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly with Fr. Kenneth O’Hotto officiating. Visitation will be held 4-8pm Wednesday at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:30pm. Additional visitation will be held Thursday morning one hour prior to Mass.
Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
We just want to express our deepest sympathy to your family. Papa was a great man and will be remembered by all with his big smile all the time.
We will keep you all in our prayers through this holiday season. We know he will be spending Christmas with your mom and Jesus.
