Patrick Henry Hopkins, 87 of rural Buffalo passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug 9, 2008 at the Sunrise Cottages of Buffalo.
He was born in Buffalo on Jan 20, 1921, the son of Henry and Martha (Van Gerow) Hopkins of Buffalo. He was baptized, confirmed and a member of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church his entire life. Patrick served in the US Navy from 1942-1946 during WWII. On June 5, 1951 he was married to Arvilla Kunkel of Maple Lake at St Timothy’s Catholic Church in Maple Lake. Their marriage was blessed with eight children. When he returned from the war he purchased a farm in Buffalo Township where he farmed for most of his life. He was a dedicated farmer, dairyman and conservationist. He was a member of the ASCS committee for several years, a director for the Minnesota Valley Breeders Association, and member of the local Food For Life organization. He enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren, gardening, watching wildlife and nature in general.
Patrick was survived by his wife of 57 years, Arvilla, his son Daniel of St Cloud, daughter Rosie (John) Muldowney of Foley, sons John (Julie), Joe (Shelley), Fred (Wanda), and Bill (Jasmine) Hopkins all of Buffalo, daughter Lily (Scott) Rance of Santa Barbara, CA and daughter Maureen (Jeremy) Hultberg of Sebeka, their 18 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Also survived by sister Jeanette Hoffman of Buffalo and a host of friends and relatives. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Anthony, William, Tom, Ralph, and sisters Mildred and Eileen.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Pat Hopkins will be held on Thursday, August 14th at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo.
Interment with military rites St. Francis Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13th at St. Francis Catholic Church from 4-8 P.M.
Casket Bearers were grandchildren: Jesse Hopkins, Justin Hopkins, Grant Hopkins, Devin Hopkins, Tom Hopkins, Jeremy Hopkins, Josh Hopkins and Nathan Hopkins.
