Ottmar “Marty” Krone entered eternal life on July 8, 2018 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Marty was born September 16, 1935 in Sisseton, South Dakota to Louis and Caroline (Gronau) Krone. He grew up in Peever, South Dakota, where he attended grade school and worked on the family farm into his early thirties. After high school, he acquired his associates degree from Hennepin Technical College. He worked various jobs including office machine maintenance and repair, and machine shop quality control inspection.
Marty met the love of his life, June Marie Brodal, and were married June 14, 1968. Recently, they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together. Marty and June made their home in Buffalo in 1971, shortly after their marriage. Together they welcomed two daughters; Shelley, who was born in 1973, and Melissa, born in 1978. He also proudly served as a sergeant in communications for the Sisseton Army National Guard for 11 years.
Marty loved to have fun, joke, and visit with whomever he came in contact with. He truly enjoyed all that life had to offer, whether he was outdoors gardening, hunting, shooting his guns, fishing, spending time on the lake boating and water skiing, or taking a ride on his motorcycle. He also enjoyed cooking and dancing. Family meant the most to him, and he cherished spending time making memories with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, June; daughters, Shelley (Troy) Hayes and Melissa (Jesse) Freborg; beautiful grandchildren, Jayden, Elleyia, and Kaylie; brother, Reinhold (Mavis); and cousin, Gordon (Melba) Gronau; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Caroline; brothers Louis (Lyla) and Reinhard (Elsie).
Funeral service will be held Friday, July 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM with visitation one hour prior at The Peterson Chapel, 119 Central Ave, Buffalo, MN. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Buffalo. Pastor Dave Strohschein will officiate with organist Meg Marggraf leading the music.
Casket bearers are Roger Krone, Troy Hayes, Jesse Freborg, Shelley Hayes, Melissa Freborg, and Jayden Freborg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the schools that Marty’s grandchildren attend: Mount Olive Lutheran School in Delano, MN and Prince of Peace Lutheran School in St. Cloud, MN.
