Gladys Olive Point, age 100, of Buffalo, formerly of Slayton and Minneapolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1st, 2008 at Sunrise of Buffalo.

Gladys Olive Point was born on February 21, 1908 in Slayton to Nathaniel and Dora (nee Schulz) Point. She entered the United States Army as a WAC to see the world but disappointedly was stationed in Manchester, New Hampshire. Nevertheless, she was proud of her duties. A graduate of Winona State University, Gladys taught junior high school science, first in southern Minnesota and then at Ramsey Junior High School. Being single afforded Gladys the freedom to travel where she pleased, and being a teacher gave her the summers off to do so. She traveled all over the world bird watching. While teaching and caring for the needs of her mother and bachelor brother Pete, Gladys joined Pete in his business ventures, including owning a small bar for a short time. After the death of her mom and Pete, and her retirement from teaching, Gladys moved with her widowed brother, Herb, to Sun City, Arizona in 1975. They enjoyed tutoring and mentoring at an Indian Mission school near Phoenix. While they lived there they learned how to grow dates (which they also processed), oranges, grapefruit, and lemons. It was also while in Arizona that Gladys became a presenter for birding groups, specializing in the topic of Birds of the Bible. Another of Gladys™s many activities was being a member of the PEO women™s educational organization. She and Herb frequently returned to Buffalo, staying at a cabin on Buffalo Lake and, in turn, hosted many visits from family and friends in their Arizona home. No matter where Gladys lived, she was an active part of a local church. Once she came to Buffalo permanently (in 2001), Gladys attended Bible study clubs, became active in the Christian Women™s Club, and joined the Buffalo Presbyterian Church. She also was quite a sports fan, especially baseball.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Nate and Dora; sister, Della (Martenas) Nyssen; three brothers: Pete Point, Herbert H.L. (Una) Point, and Ray (Helen) Point; a niece; and three nephews. She is survived by a niece Ruth (Don) Zinter; many great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, including Ellen Point and Bud Marvin.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday at Buffalo Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.

Interment at Slayton City Cemetery at 2:00 PM Monday.
