Visitation Information

Esther Selma Marohn was born September 22, 1911 on a farm at Rock Lake near Maple Lake, Minnesota. She was baptized by Pastor Vahl on October 22, 1911 and confirmed by Pastor Alfred Streufert on May 24, 1925 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township. As a young girl, Esther worked for various families taking care of infants and children and helping out with the many household chores. She married Edwin Marohn of Howard Lake on May 7, 1933, at the same church. Together they farmed and raised five children on Edwin’s home place. In 1950, the family moved to Albion Center Store and from there, went back to farming south of Howard Lake while being members of St. James Lutheran Church. Esther was a very hard worker, working along side her husband and keeping up the household. She always had a big garden and did a lot of canning but Esther never lost her sense of humor. After a number of years, another move was made to a farm in rural Delano and became members of Crawford Lake Church. After a while, they moved to Buffalo where they lived for a very short time and Esther began to work for Keplinger Produce. In 1963, they moved back to a farm that was close to Edwin’s home place. They resided there until she entered the Annandale Care Center. Esther loved the farm and was very happy to be back and so close to her home church once again where she remained a member until her death. She enjoyed being in the LWML and did a lot of quilting with the ladies. She did a lot of that on her own, also using the old quilting frames. Esther passed away at the Annandale Care Center on Sunday, November 23, 2008. She is survived by her five children, Kenneth of Howard Lake and special friend Marlene Helmke, Ronald (Alice) of Palm Coast, Florida, Jeanette (Vernon) Beckala of Cokato, Norman (Toots) of Andover and William (Kay) of Big Lake; Thirteen grandchildren, John and Edwin Marohn, Lisa (Jim) Spitz, Dawnine, Jamie (Denise), Chad Beckala (fiancée Denise), Stacy (Mike) Blackmun, Terri (Paul) Haarstad, Keith (Kathryn) Marohn, Heather (Scott) Ludwig, Sarah (Nathan) Miller, Jennifer (Chad) Haas, Holly (Scott) Wellman; Nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Erna Elfmann and one sister-in-law, Gladeline Goerke. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Ida Goerke; husband, Edwin; brothers, Theodore, Adolph, Arthur, Walter and Herbert; sisters, Lydia, Ida and Ella. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township. Visitation is two hours prior to the service at church. Interment is at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pastor Lynn Machula will officiate the service. Jeanette Beckala will play the organ. Kay Marohn is the soloist. “Praise to the Lord Almighty”, “Rock of Ages”, “My Course is Run” and “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” are being sung. I just wanted to say I will miss Esther and her great sense of humor. She was a joy to get to know over the last 7 years at the Annandale Care Center. I would like to say how sorry I am for your loss and we will all miss Esther. God Bless.
