Mildred (Saari) Tapio-Shrode, age 93, of Buffalo, MN and formerly of Delano, MN passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Park View Care Center.
She was born on August 24, 1921 in Kingston, MN the daughter of Frank and Johanna (Ruonola) Saari. She grew up on the family farm with her seven brothers and two sisters. Mildred graduated from Litchfield High School in 1941.
On November 7, 1941 she married John Tapio and they were blessed with five children. She was a Cub Scout Leader and leader in 4-H. She was a volunteer driver for Wright County for people who needed to go to the doctor, she sang in the choir, was a receptionist at the Senior Center in Delano, as a past President of the Wright County Senior Clubs and the Democratic chairwoman of Wright County.
She enjoyed traveling to Sweden two different time with her brothers.
Her husband, John, passed away in 1973. On December 20, 1975 she married Leroy Shrode and they moved from Cokato to Delano.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John Tapio Sr., husband Leroy Shrode and son David Tapio.
She is survived by her children John (Sue) Tapio, Daniel Tapio, Mary Reardon and Thomas (Jody) Tapio; grandchildren Nickolas (Randi) Tapio, Mianna Tapio, Marissa Dibba, John (Elizabeth) Reardon, Molly Reardon, Chelsie (Kim Joe) Sham and Cameron Tapio; great-grandchildren Thomas, Isaiah, Ashley, Joshua, Elijah and Momodou; brother Albert (Mary Lou); sister-in-law Lila Tapio-Ryti; step-children; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mildred Tapio-Shrode will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Pastor Orval Wirkkala will officiate.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the chapel one hour prior to services.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Thomas Reardon, Isaiah Davis, Ashley Tapio, Joshua Tapio, Elijah Schmidt, and Momodou Dibba.
Casket Bearers will be Nickolas Tapio, Mianna Tapio, Marissa Dibba, John Reardon, Molly Reardon, Chelsie Sham and Cameron Tapio.
Interment at Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo assisted the family with arrangements.
