Melvin Benson Gillund, age 88, of Buffalo was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

He was born on June 17, 1925 in Ham Lake, Minnesota the son of Melvin & Hannah Benson Gillund.

On June 18, 1955, Melvin B. Gillund and Marlys M. Swanson were joined in holy marriage in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. God blessed their marriage with three daughters.

Mel was in WWII and the Korean wars, serving overseas in Japan, Philippines and stateside in Alabama.

Mel utilized his farm upbringing for his entire working years and was employed as a parts man and buyer for several agricultural companies. He was a member of the Farm Equipment Suppliers of America.

Mel was an active, faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council, Call Committee and participating in numerous Bible Studies.

Mel was active in the community through the Wright County Historical Society, MN Council on Aging and Community Education. Mel taught calligraphy and wood carving classes.

In retirement Mel enjoyed traveling, gardening and woodcarving. He is known for his beautiful zinnias and his Santa carvings.

Survived by loving wife of fifty–eight and a half years: Marlys; daughters: Karen Gillund of Palmer, Alaska, Diane Kruse of Moorhead and Judy (Mark) Bay of Elk River; 4 grandchildren: Amy Jo (Nathan) Mattison, Timothy (Samantha) Kruse, Grace Bay and Jeffrey Kuderer; 2 great grandchildren: Ava & Elizabeth Mattison; sisters: Claris Syren and Wanda (Wallace) Pottenger; brothers: Kermit (Sylvia) Gillund, Glenn (Lois) Gillund & Clifford (Kathy) Gillund; brother-in-law: Darl Wallin; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents & two sisters: Pearl (infancy) & Betty Wallin, a nephew: Roger Gillund and by a brother-in-law: Al Syren.

Funeral services for Melvin Gillund will be held on Monday, December 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Pastors Ted Vanderpan & Luke Schmidt will officiate.

Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22nd from 4-7 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Further visitation will be held on Monday morning, December 23rd at the church one hour prior to services.

Casket Bearers will be Daniel Gillund, David Gillund, Rodney Gillund, Paul Gillund, Thomas Gillund, Kelly Hanson.
