Matthew Leigh Barthel, age 47, of Hawick, Minnesota passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at his residence.
He was born on August 23, 1972 in Buffalo the son of Lowell J. “Pete” & Marlene L. (Schumm) Barthel.
Matt enjoyed being self employed and had his own eBay business where he was very successful selling small engines and motors. In his leisure time he enjoyed vegetable gardening, old cars, animals and his cherished 1970 Challenger. He always shared fond memories of special times with his mom, family and friends. We will miss his wonderful personality and incredible smile!
Survived by his loving mother: Marlene Barthel of Buffalo; sisters and brothers: Cheryl Feltman of Howard Lake, Robert Barthel of Buffalo, Richard Barthel of Monticello, Mary (Edward) Jacobson of Waverly, Denise (Wayne) Keeran of Savage and Troy Barthel of Maple Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by a sister Deborah Hurley and by his father.
A public celebration of Matt’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.

Dear Family,
I will always remember the fun times Matt, Troy and my two sons, Nick and Tony, had in our backyard taking apart and rebuilding bicycles.They had so much fun and we will always remember how, as my daughter Amy put it, “Matt and Nick were attached at the hip!”
