Mary J. Otten, age 66 of Hillman, died Sunday, February 10, 2008 at St. Cloud Hospital.

Mary Jane was born on February 10, 1942 in Bemidji to Ernest and Elsie (nee Watts) Hall. A Class of 1960 graduate of Bemidji High School, Mary married Ron Bohall in 1961. They later divorced. On June 9, 1969 Mary and Donald Otten were wed in Sisseton, SD. They farmed together in rural Buffalo from 1973 until 2000 when they retired to Hillman. She liked caring for the animals on the farm but was also fond of adopting orphaned creatures. A loving soul, Mary was Mother to everyone and everything. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and in her younger years, fishing.

Mary is survived by her husband, Don, of Hillman; sons: Earnest (Lori) Bohall, of Buffalo, David (Gail) Otten, of Seattle, WA, John (Kathy) Otten, of Tulare, CA, Patrick (Peggy) Otten, of Cokato, and Jeffrey (Debbie) Otten, of Rockford; daughters: Katrina (Dan) Schlotfeldt, of Hillman, Rosemary (Butch) Sparks, of Des Moines, IA, Kathleen (Bill) Beuning, of Bemidji, and Barbara (Mike) Korblick, of Monticello; sister, Marlys (Bob) Sampson, of Bemidji; 22 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; many other relatives; and dog, Duke. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Aumdson; and two grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 2:30 P.M. Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the Peterson Chapel-Buffalo. Visitation is at the funeral home Wednesday 4-8 P.M. with a 7:30 Prayer Service and resumes one hour before the funeral. Burial will take place at St. Mark™s Cemetery, Pelican Lake, following the funeral. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
