Mary Ellen Zachman, age 69 of Elk River and formerly St. Michael, passed away on February 3, 2019 from complications of MS.
Mary Ellen was born the daughter of Joseph and Elnora (Campbell) Spehle on November 19, 1949 in Eau Claire, WI.
Mary Ellen married Jeff Zachman on October 27, 1973. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters Kathryn and Jennifer.
During her school years Mary Ellen went trade school for computer programming. She worked at a fabric store, a bank in St. Michael and then ended her career at Middleton Insurance doing their accounting work.
Mary Ellen was quick witted and vey independent which she passed on to her daughters. She loved cooking, sewing and taught CCD at St. Michael Catholic Church.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband Jeff Zachman; daughters, Kathryn Basavage and Jennifer (Greg) Hughes; grandchildren Dawson, Corinne and Lydia; siblings Ron Spehle and Karen Bacik; also nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Janet Spehle.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred for mass and St. Michael Catholic School.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the mass all at St. Michael Catholic Church of St. Michael.
Luncheon to follow at church.
Interment will be in the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Spehle Zachman passed on Sunday, February 3rd. She struggled valiantly against the ravages of MS for years, also suffering a stroke, but never lost faith in God or His goodness. She was one of my closest & dearest friends. She was a strong woman of God, a wife to Jeff, a mother to my nieces Kate & Jenny and Grandmother to Dawson, Corinne & Lydia Basavage. Her love of family was fierce for her brother Ron Spehle, his wife Nancy Spehle and her sister Karen Spehle-Bacik & husband Tom Bacik (deceased) & many nieces & nephews. She will be missed by so many but especially by those I’ve mentioned. We don’t know nor do we need to understand God’s plan, but we do need to trust & have faith that everything unfolds according to His word. God received a fighter back into His arms, but He already knew her & was well prepared! God speed Mary El, till we meet again! ???????????????????? ✝️ ???? ✝️ Amen
