Mary Edith Galvin, age 94, of Buffalo and formerly of Winsted passed away on Saturday, September 24th, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Buffalo.

She was born on May 10, 1917 in Oak Pointe, Minnesota the daughter of Jules & Emma Mandeville Poirier.

On June 15, 1938, Mary E. Poirier & George J. Galvin were joined in holy marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with five children.

She was a former faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and belonged to The St. Anne’s Society. Mary was also a longtime member of the Auxiliaries of American Legion Post # 407 in Winsted and V.F.W. Post #425 in Hopkins.

Survived by four children: Patricia (James) Whalen of Buffalo, John “Jack” (Donna) Galvin of Montgomery, Joseph (Linda) Galvin of Aitkin and George “Butch” (Shirley) Galvin of Faribault; fifteen grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and a great, great grandchild; a brother: Paul Poirier of Maple Plain; a sister: Bernadette DeRosier of Howard Lake; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband George Galvin in 1977, a son: James Galvin in 2007, her parents, brothers and sisters: John Poirier, Emma Ringer, Delphine Poirier, Albert Poirier, Alphonse Poirier, Rose Carpenter, Anthony Poirier, Arthur Poirier and Robert Poirier.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Galvin will be held at The Church of St. Francis in Buffalo on Wednesday, September 28th at 11:00 A.M.

Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 27th at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo from 4-8 P.M. Parish Prayers will be held at 7:00 P.M.

Further visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the church.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Denny Galvin, Keith Galvin, Justin Galvin and Tim Galvin.

Casket Bearers will be Jim Galvin, Steve Galvin, David Galvin, James Whalen, Troy Galvin and Jordan Kuck.
