Mary Ann (Wilcenski) Stengel, age 85 of Buffalo, Minnesota, passed away May 7, 2023.

She was born on May 13, 1937 in Antigo, Wisconsin to Walter and Edna (Behm) Wilcenski. Mary attended and graduated from Antigo High School with the class of 1954.

In 1957, she met James Harold Stengel shortly after he was discharged from his military service. The two were joined in marriage at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo, Wisconsin in 1958. While living in Wisconsin, Mary worked for the public library and the Antigo Chamber of Commerce. Jim worked for the Woolworth Company, which lead to job transfers throughout his career. Their family relocated to Iowa and then Minnesota, where Mary was a homemaker taking care of her family. After her children were grown. she wanted to work again. Mary was employed with the Wayzata School District and The Foursome. There she made many lifelong friends.

Mary was known for her kind and generous heart. She genuinely cared about how everyone else was doing; she could always find a way to help a friend or family member out in times of need. She was always thoughtful and thinking of others; many of her friends and family were recipients of her considerate birthday cards and gifts.

She had an adventurous spirit and was always willing to experience fun and exciting endeavors. Mary and Jim traveled all over the country together, taking road trips to California, Florida, and South Carolina. She liked to be included in activities no matter how big or small of an outing it was. She could have a good time no matter what because she simply enjoyed her time with the people she was with. Mary especially loved having her special weekly get together with her friends enjoying a nice cup of coffee and good conversations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Edna; brother, Thomas; and son-in-law, Gregory “Greg” Wollum.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Jim; children, Catherine “Cathy” (Jerry) Bolan, Cheryl “Cheri” Wollum, Christine “Chris” Stengel, and David (Gretchen) Stengel; grandchildren, Cassandra Wollum, Sonja (Anthony) Block, Kaitlyn Amber Stengel, and Devon Leigh Stengel; great-grandchild, Ryland Stengel; and many other relatives and friends.
