Margaret Mary DeMarais, age 97, of rural Waverly passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Home of Howard Lake.

She was born to Eli and Georgiana (Hance-Fobbe) DeMarais on May 25, 1916 in Maple Lake, MN. On June 5, 1934, she was united in marriage to John DeMarais at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Maple Lake. Margaret and John moved to the farm in Marysville Township where she lived for 74 years. They were married for 43 years prior to John’s passing in 1977.

She worked very hard on the farm in addition to raising a family. She was employed at Keplinger Poultry and Egg plant and the Kings House of Buffalo. She also cleaned homes in Wayzata for 17 years for the Rowley Miller family and her mother Mrs. John Pillsbury Snyder, a Titanic survivor.
She loved to dance and had a natural talent for playing the piano and accordion. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, canning, playing cards, casino trips and fishing. But spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends was her all-time favorite thing to do. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Council of Catholic Women.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband John, parents Eli and Georgiana DeMarais, daughter, Mildred (husbands Ralph Wurm and Patrick Hannon), son-in-law Jerry Driver, grandsons John Clem DeMarais and Joseph Wurm, granddaughter Shelly (DeMarais) Lynch, sister Loretta (Raymond) Wolfsteller, brother Ray (Elaine) DeMarais, half sisters and brothers, Bernice (Donald) Stumpf, Vince (Viola) DeMarais, Evelyn (Jack) Borrell and Francis Fobbe.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Eugene, Douglas of Waverly, Duane (Lois) DeMarais of Buffalo, Charlene (Jerry) Driver of Waverly; grandchildren Alfred (Catherine) Wurm of Maple Lake, Cheryl (Todd) Thomas of Oakridge, TN, John (Jennifer Hoffman) Wurm of Maple Lake, Edward Wurm of Maple Lake, Karen (Joseph) Fobbe of Long Grove, IL, Todd (Ann) DeMarais of St. Louis Park, Stephanie (Scott) Price of Mound, Dennis (Kelly) DeMarais of Maple Lake, Janelle DeMarais of Waverly, Jarrod Driver of Waverly, Tonia (Scott) Wick of Maple Lake, Chad (Melanie) Driver of Buffalo, Lynette (David) Lukach of Montrose; 23 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; special friends Dan Stokes, Dave Lynch, Laura Frey, Ethel Fobbe and Arlene Peterson; nieces, nephews, other relatives
