Mabel Cyrus Hayes, 90, of Buffalo was granted her wish Thursday morning June 19, 2014 at Lake Ridge Care Center to leave her broken earthly body behind and enter the Lord’s kingdom. She was born September 19, 1923 and grew up on the family farm outside of Howard Lake. Mabel graduated with honors from Howard Lake High School in 1941 and moved to Minneapolis until marrying Jack Hayes in September 1945.

Her early married life was spent in Monticello where she gave birth to two glorious sons. The family later moved to Buffalo where she helped husband Jack operate the Hayes Insurance Agency located on Highway 55. She had worked at various jobs throughout her life but excelled as the ultimate homemaker and matriarch.

She loved to garden, read and played Scrabble right up to the end of her life. When Jack died in 1983, she began a new chapter in her life moving to 206 South 2nd Street in Buffalo. She loved her little house and the wonderful neighborhood. There she continued to pursue her hobbies, make more friends and enjoy family get-togethers. Mabel lived fiercely independently up to her ninetieth birthday and touched many lives demonstrating daily her absolute faith and belief. She was a smart, proud, and dignified lady who left this world the same way she lived it.

If you reach ninety, a lot of people precede you in death.

Survivors include: sons, Tom (Lauri) Hayes of Buffalo, Bill (Dorothy) Hayes of Robbinsdale; granddaughters Sayward and Keira Hayes; grandsons Jack and Kyle Hayes; sister Etta (Don) Hayes of Montrose; sister-in-law and lifelong friend Carol (Marv) Hayes of Howard Lake; brother-in-law Frank Hayes of Winsted; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members; AND a host of friends, acquaintances whom she treasured throughout her life.

These folks and many others will miss Mabel dearly but will always find comfort remembering how she lived her life and, more importantly, how she anticipated her death.

Funeral services for Mabel were scheduled for Monday morning June 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at the Lake Ridge Care Center Chapel with a visitation one hour prior.

Casket Bearers will be Craig, Pete, Tim, Jeff, Jack and Kyle Hayes.
