Loel F. Bertrand, age 93, of New Hope, and formerly of Buffalo, passed away December 24, 2014 at St. Therese. He was born on March 16, 1921, the son of Lexzy and Myrtle (Mack) Bertrand in Clark, South Dakota. On October 28, 1944, Loel Bertrand was joined in holy marriage to Patricia E. McTernan in Freeholt, New Jersey. Loel was a faithful Catholic; being a member at the Church of St. Michael, St. Raphael’s in Crystal, and most recently at St. Therese in New Hope. Loel was a Chief Engineer at Northwestern Bell for many years, a WWII Army Veteran, a Crystal City Council member, and a 4th Degree Grand Knight of the Crystal Knights of Columbus After retirement, Loel became a Master Gardener at the MN Landscape Arboretum. Family describes Loel as a very kind, caring and giving role model and a friend to all. Preceded in death by wife: Patricia E. Bertrand; 2 brothers, 2 sisters. Survived by sons: Michael (Sheryl) Bertrand of Edina, MN, Timothy (Jean) Bertrand of Gloucester, VA; daughters: Terry (Lloyd) Thielmann of Dayton, MN, Patty (Roger) Hansen of Blaine, MN, Margaret Keesling of Hutchinson, MN; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 1, 2015 from 5-8 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville. A Prayer service will be held at 7:45 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Friday morning, January 2nd one hour prior to Mass at the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at The Church of St. Michael in St. Michael. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorials in Loel’s name are preferred to St. Therese in New Hope or The MN Landscape Arboretum.
Our deepest sympathy to you. We have lots of good memories of Loel and Pat in Crystal and at the lake when we visited Doc and Emmy.
