Lloyd E. Kohnen, age 89, of Albertville and formerly of Greenfield passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at The Buffalo Hospital.

He was born on May 7, 1923 in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County the son of Hubert & Minnie Harff Kohnen.

He was baptized on May 29, 1923. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on March 21, 1937 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

On April 28, 1945, Lloyd E. Kohnen and Genevieve J. Sipe were joined in holy marriage at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood. God blessed their marriage with four children.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer in Greenfield and retired in 1995 to St. Michael and later moved to Albertville.

He was a faithful, lifelong member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife: Genevieve J. Kohnen; children: Ronald (Sharon) Kohnen of Loretto, Karen (Rodger) Marschel of Buffalo, Nancy (Gary) Korpi of New Hope and Susan (Richard) Kurth of Elk River; grandchildren: Matt Kohnen, Emily Kurth, Jeff Kohnen, Amy Kurth Steinke, Stacy Korpi Thorpe, Sara Kohnen Bacon and Zachary Kurth; ten great grandchildren; a brother: Elton (Darlene) Kohnen and a sister: Lucille Theis all of Arizona; a sister-in-law: Agnes Kohnen of Albertville; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents: Hubert & Minnie Kohnen, a sister: Helen, brothers: Ervin, Harold and Marlin Kohnen and by a grandson: Thomas Marschel.

Funeral services for Lloyd Kohnen will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Pastor Dennis K. Strong will officiate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6th at the church from 3-7 P.M. A Prayer service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Monday, January 7th one hour prior to services at the church.

Casket Bearers will be his grandchildren: Matt Kohnen, Thomas Marschel represented by Willie Kohnen, Emily Kurth represented by Rod Stickler, Jeff Kohnen, Amy Kurth Steinke, Stacy Korpi Thorpe, Sara Kohnen Bacon and Zachary Kurth.
