Leonard “Len” Frank Dalchow, age 80, of Hanover departed this life and went to his eternal home on Thursday, September 15, 2016.

He was born at home in St. Bonifacious on January 26, 1936 the son of Emil and Louise (Dressel) Dalchow.

Leonard was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Watertown, MN on February 23, 1936 by Pastor Karl Rudolph. He was confirmed on April 2, 1950 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Watertown, MN by Pastor John Sporner. His confirmation verse was Philippians 1: 2
Len attended St. Peter Lutheran School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Watertown High School on June 1, 1954.

Len worked for neighboring farmers as a boy. His first full-time job was at Molded Products in Maple Plain, MN. He was always proud to say he helped to make “Harry the Hairless Horse”. In 1956 he went to work for Minneapolis Moline in Hopkins, MN.

Leonard Dalchow and Laura Hunziker were joined in holy marriage on May 4, 1957 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, MN. Reverend M. F. Rieche officiated. The Lord blessed their marriage with four children Lana, Larry, Lee and Lori.

In 1964 Len began working nights at Pako Corp. in Golden Valley, MN. Also, in 1964 he began Len’s Lawn Service mowing lawns in the mornings before work. In 1977 he decided he needed more space for the business and moved the family from St. Louis Park, MN to Hanover, MN. In 1980 Len left the corporate life to pursue his work-life passion and took his lawn service business full-time. He mowed lawns, sprayed weeds, fertilized lawns, pruning, fall leaf cleanups, landscaping and snowplowing. He truly loved helping to keep God’s creation beautiful and the people he met doing it. He retired in 2005 yet continued to help friends with small jobs.

He lived in Hanover,MN until March of 2012 when he moved to St. Benedicts Senior Assisted Living Community in Monticello, MN.

Len enjoyed his family and friends, sharing stories of times past, telling jokes, gardening, fishing, making beer and wine, traveling and especially seeing his grandchildren.

Len will be deeply missed by all who loved him!
Survived by his wife of 50 years Laura (Hunziker) Dalchow; children: Lana (Doug) Reich, Larry (Marcy) Dalchow, Lee (Michelle) Dalchow and Lori (Phil) Goth; grandchildren: Kevin and Tyler Reich; Kora and Kena Dalchow; and Jade and Jacob Goth; sisters: Lorena Remer and Gladys Clasen; sisters-in-law: Gwen Dalchow and Louella Dalchow, Harriet Berg, Faye (Jim) Molnau and brothers-in-law: Doug (Marcia) Hunziker and Chuck (Marilyn) Scharlau; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents Emil and Louise Dalchow; brothers: Milfred Dalchow and Roy Dalchow; sister:Verna Graunke; brothers-in-law: Virgil Clasen, Orville Graunke, Linus Remer and Nicholas Berg; father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Louise Hunziker and sister-in-law: Beverly Scharlau.

Funeral services for Leonard Dalchow will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN. Pastor Steven Briel will officiate. Interment will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 19 from 4-8:00 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN. Further visitation will be held on Tuesday morning, September 20th one hour prior to services at the church.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Kora Dalchow, Kena Dalchow, Jade Goth and Jacob Goth.

Casket Bearers will be Larry Dalchow, Lee Dalchow, Doug Reich, Phil Goth, Kevin Reich and Tyler Reich.
