Lawrence Robert “Larry” Barthel, age 64, of St. Michael passed away on Monday, November 25th, 2013 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born on July 5, 1949 in Minneapolis the son of Clem & Isabelle Pouliot Barthel.

Larry graduated in 1968 from St. Michael High School. He later attended two years of Culinary School.

He was formerly employed as a chef at Mount Olivet Rolling Acres.

Larry was a life member of The church of St. Michael in St. Michael. He belonged to the Historic Church’s Preservation Committee and was a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #4174. Through the years, Larry was active in Pro Life, was chairperson for Senior Dinning, belonged to Befrienders Program, active in Toy Drive for St. Joseph Children’s home and helped sponsor an under priviledged child in need.

Survived by brothers & sisters; Lyle (Dottie) Barthel, LeRoy (Chris) Barthel, Mike (Cindy) Barthel and Mark Barthel all of St. Michael, Nancy (Byron) Tilus of Buffalo, Cindy (Jim) Bistodeau of Albertville and Brenda (Bill) Mosby of St. Michael; a sister-in-law: Linda Barthel of St. Michael; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents: Clem & Isabelle Barthel and by a brother: Francis Joseph Barthel.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence R. “Larry” Barthel will be held on Monday, December 2nd, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of St. Michael in St. Michael. Concelebrants will be Larry’s uncles: Father Eugene Pouliot and Father Francis Pouliot and Father Peter Richards.

Interment will follow at The St. Michael Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1st, 2013 from 4-8 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. A K.C. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Monday morning at the church one hour prior to Mass.

Casket Bearers will be Larry’s nephews.

    Rest in peace, cousin. May the Lord in His infinite love and mercy forever hold you in the palm of His hand. Please pray for those of us left behind, Larry, that one day we, like you, will hear the words “well done good and faithful servant”.

    Larry was a kind & generous person. In the early 90’s I worked part-time at Rolling Acres. His family & his church were important to him. So sorry to see him pass at such an early age.
