LaVerne Mayta Bonstrom, age 87, of Buffalo, MN, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010, at the Parkview Care Center in Buffalo.

LaVerne Mayta Bonstrom was born December 13, 1922, the youngest of nine children, in Albion Township, Wright County, MN, to Herman and Annie (Uecker) Behneke. She grew up in Albion Township and attended country school. She graduated from Buffalo High School.

LaVerne was united in marriage to Vernon Bonstrom on March 8, 1941. To this union two children were born, Jeanne and Jerald. LaVerne worked at Cohen’s as a sales clerk for over 25 years. She loved to babysit her four grandchildren as they were growing up, and her grandchildren blessed her with four great-grandchildren. LaVerne enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, the Minnesota Twins, and dancing, especially the polka. She enjoyed traveling, as well. She loved to go to Phoenix in the winter and stay with her granddaughter. She traveled to Austria in 1999 with her children. LaVerne was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and ALPHA. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

LaVerne is survived by her children: Jeanne (J.David) Dixon of Buffalo, Jerald Bonstrom of Roseville, MN; four grandchildren: Wendy Dixon and husband Doug Etzel, Tracy Dixon and husband Bob Davies, Kelly Dixon and husband Giles Thelen, and Cami Dixon and husband Neil Shook; four great-grandchildren: Eli, Ben, Rio and Vahn. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Orlin (Mary) Bonstrom of Minneapolis, and several nieces and nephews out of state.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Annie Behneke, husband Vernon in 1992, and siblings: Esther, Walter, Ada, William, Edwin, Sarah, Ella, and Sadie.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 27, 2010, at 2:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo with the Rev. James Disney and the Rev. Christian Bode officiating. Organist is Marilyn Kostick. Special Music will be provided by by Laverne’s son Jerry. Visitation will be Monday at the church from noon until the time of service. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Buffalo, MN.

The casket bearers are Bill Davis (friend), Wayne Hillstrom (friend), Doug Etzel (grandson-in-law), Bob Davies (grandson-in-law), Eli Etzel (grandson), and Orlin Bonstrom (brother-in-law).

The Honorary Casket Bearers include Neil Shook(grandson-in-law), Giles Thelen (grandson-in-law), Dennis Klein (nephew), Vic Cohen (former employer), Francis Doherty (friend) and Harley Anderson (friend).

    I was so shocked to hear that LaVerne had passed. My husband & I got to know her through ALPHA at St. John’s and love her company. She will be missed greatly by the two of us. Our prayers go out to LaVerne’s family & friends.

    Your Mother was always friendly and interested in us whenever we saw her at the store. I still appreciate that kindness. I am sure she led a good life and was cared for by many.

    Jeanne and Jerry,
    I am so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I lived next door to you on Central Avenue when I was growing up. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families.
