Kim Robert Johnson, age 76 of Buffalo, passed away at his home on July 23rd, 2018. Kim was born and raised in Buffalo. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1959, Saint John’s University in ’63, and the U of M Law School in ’66. Then he served in the Army, ending in 1968 as a Captain. He returned to Buffalo, and practiced law with his father. In 1983, he was appointed a district court judge, and served in that capacity until retiring in 2008.
Kim is preceded in death by Walter S. and Verna (Vossberg) Johnson. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Beverly Johnson; his daughters Lori (Bryon) Brand and Amy (Olaf) Minge; his sisters Lynn (John) White, Lee (Stan) Pauli, Paula (Charley) Streiff, and Vicky (Tom) Stringer; his grandchildren Bryon Brand Jr., Christopher Minge, Hunter Brand, Erich Brand, and Annika Minge; and many friends and relatives.
Kim loved outdoor activities, including backpacking, camping, canoeing, fishing, skiing, sailing, and scuba diving. He also enjoyed photography, reading, and building model ships. Although Kim spent much time traveling, he was always happy to return to his hometown of Buffalo.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier School on August 4th at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior. Memorials can be made to City of Buffalo Parks Dept. or Friends of Lake Maria State Park.
Bev, Lori, Amy, Kim’s sisters and families- our thoughts and prayers to all of you. You have such wonderful memories to embrace and hold onto. May you find comfort and peace. Hugs to all.

My sorrow for Kim’s family. He was a classmate at Buffalo, a friend, and a Rocket Club member. I am sad at his loss.
Every day was an adventure – Lake Maria, boundary waters, sailing the seas, trips to Chicago and simple days by the pool.
Bev and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Unfortunately, we will be traveling the date of Kim’s funeral. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you!
Very sorry to hear about the loss of Kim Johnson, or Judge Johnson as I knew him. It was really an honor, working next to him at the courthouse. a truly honorable man!
Kim or Judge Johnson, as I knew him while working at the Courthouse was a truly Honorable Man and there are not many like him around. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy for Kim’s family and friends. He was one of my closest friends for so many years. Kim and I grew up together. From 2nd or 3rd grade through most of high school we partook in countless activities:
The many times Walter drove us to Trollhaugen in Wisconsin to ski; the trips to Lutsen and Grand Marais on the North shore of Lake Superior for skiing; Duck and Pheasant hunting with Walter and the Wagner boys; The model boats and airplanes we made together.
One early spring Walter and Verna took Kim and me on a weekend trip up to the North Shore of Lake Superior – went for a swim in that icy cold water (I think the swim lasted about 2 minutes at the most).
I think of the time we built the diving helmet and spent so many hours that summer at Lake Pulaski with it – and the time Kim was down and I forgot to keep pumping air to him – he came up wheezing, but other than that was alright.
And then there was the sailboat on Buffalo Lake in the summer and the Ice boat in the winter.
I remember the wingless airplane that Walter got somehow – I can’t remember the details. Kim had skis made for it and we spent a winter flying (or rather gliding) around Buffalo Lake.
One summer my folks took Kim and me to the Black Hills in South Dakota. That was a wonderful time – going through the several caves and the jeep ride up a mountain.
And of course there was all the mischief we got into (the details best left unsaid).

Judge Johnson had a courtroom demeanor that was cool and to the point, but behind the bench his professional demeanor would completely melt away upon seeing a puppy. He was a delight to work with. My condolences to Judge Johnson’s family on the loss of this good man.
