Kermit D. Holmquist, 93, of Buffalo, MN, went be with the Lord on December 16, 2012. The funeral was held at the Buffalo Covenant Church on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. Visitation was held at the church one hour prior to services.
Kermit was born September 17, 1919, in Buffalo to Edwin and Mabel (Hader) Holmquist. Following his high school graduation, he attended one year at Macalester College. He then worked for his father at Holmquist’s Foods until he entered the Army/Air Force in 1941, spending the next four years in the service for his country. Kermit served during WWII in North Africa, Sicily and Italy but was primarily in Assam, India. He received an honorable discharge on July 9, 1945. Prior to his official discharge he was united in marriage to Bernice Wilkins on May 19, 1945.

Kermit was in the grocery business with his father and two brothers, Dwight and Bruce, for over 40 years. During these years strong family ties were developed and maintained. These relationships extended to four sisters: Muriel (Ray Peterson), Maxine (Floyd Brown), Beverly (Ed Kussman), Sharon (Stan Skytte) and brother Keith (Shirley). Strong relationships were deeply appreciated by Kermit.

After his retirement in 1985 he and Bernie moved to Sun City, AZ. While there he became involved in many volunteer works including Charles Colson’s Prison Fellowship Ministry. He was also active at the Grace Bible Church, serving on various boards.

Kermit was an avid golfer who enjoyed the out-of-doors and the many opportunities afforded him in Sun City. He was a quiet, unassuming man who gave of himself to others. He had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and has been a committed Christian since his commitment to Christ as a teenager.

Bernie went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2001. Kermit remained in Sun City until February 2008 when he returned to Buffalo. He entered Lake Ridge Manor in April 2010 and the Care Center in March of 2011. He was very grateful to the dedicated staff at both units.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jan Donnelly (Gregg) of Delano and Robin Martie of East Bethel; brother Keith (Shirley)of Anderson, SC sisters Sharon (Stan) of Wayzata, Bev (Ed) of Maple Grove; sisters-in-law Gale Holmquist, Harriet Holmquist, eight grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bernie, brothers Dwight and Bruce; sisters, Muriel and Maxine; brothers-in-law, Ray and Floyd; two sons, Terry in 1963 and David in 2000.
